It's wise to make sure you have everything you need to get packed up before starting!

Bedroom

Most likely, your room is equipped with the basics: a bed, mattress, wardrobe, desk, and chair. You will need to bring the items that make your room feel like home. These are the things you should bring:

  1. Duvet, sheets and duvet covers (take some of each).
  2. Mattress protector
  3. Pillows and pillowcases
  4. You can make your room look better with a rug or some cushions.
  5. Decorations that make you feel at home. You can hang things on door handles, photo frames and fairy lights.
  6. Photos, posters, Blu Tack
  7. Stationery and books
  8. You will need a charger, a charger, and a laptop. If you have one, a small speaker may be useful.
  9. purse, cards, ID, passport, important documents etc.
  10. Bags, such as the clutch/bumbag essential for night outs and a large enough bag to hold your books and laptop for uni
  11. Clothes, shoes, and coat hangers
  12. You can get a TV, but you will most likely use your laptop or PC monitor. Make sure to get your TV license.
  13. An airer and laundry hamper
  14. Paracetamol, a medicine that is essential for freshers, is recommended.
  15. A bedroom bin (double-check as it might be available)

The top tip is to not overpack. Keep in mind that you will need to move everything again next summer. You can order or visit the shops if you forget anything important.

Bathroom

Make sure you check whether the accommodation is shared or en-suite. You might want to split the cost for things like toilet roll later on if it is shared. Let's start with:

  1. Shampoo, conditioner, and shampoo
  2. Toothpaste and toothbrush
  3. Hand soap
  4. toilet cleaner, bleach, toilet brush
  5. Hand towels and towels
  6. toilet rolls

Kitchen

Most halls have a kettle and a toaster, but make sure you check the contents before you leave. You might be able to share a kitchen with your flatmates, but not microwaves. These are the essential items you will need:

  1. A few glasses and mugs
  2. A couple of saucepans or frying pans
  3. A chopping board, some baking trays and some baking sheets are also useful.
  4. Cutlery and some chopping knifes
  5. Bowls and plates
  6. Bin bags, sandwich bags and foil are all acceptable.
  7. You can use any utensils, such as a spatula, wooden spoon, or pizza wheel, that you have.
  8. Tea towels
  9. Tupperware
  10. Some cupboard staples like pasta, baked beans and teabags to help you get through the first few days

Top tip - When you get to your destination, make sure to stop by a local store to pick up some milk and bread. This is a great way to get to know your local area.
