Pack well in advance
The number of items you have will determine the time it takes to pack them all. In most of our articles, we recommend that you start packing sooner than people think. Two months should suffice for a large home if you only pack one box per day. One month should suffice for smaller homes. Although there is no exact number, you can get an idea of the general range.
Begin with the rooms and objects you don't use as often.
You can start by tackling the rooms on the top floor, especially if there is a loft. Then, work your way down to the lower floors. You can pack seasonal items such as coats, gloves, and Christmas lights before you tackle the rest of your belongings. It's easier to sort through your stuff and decide which boxes to keep, or to donate.
Declutter and give
Don't forget to donate your unwanted items to charity or hold a garage sale. You also have the option of selling your items on eBay. Ask your friends if they have any items you are looking to sell. You're not asking them to pay you, so they shouldn't be charged a fee. A pizza or drink can sweeten the deal.
Create a detailed inventory.
These labels are very useful if you have a lot of CDs, books, trinkets, and so on. You can write "Books" on your moving boxes labels. If you have a special literature collection that is not kept in one room, we recommend creating detailed inventory lists. You can then upload the spreadsheets to your smartphone and print out copies of each box.
Only pack one room at a given time
This is a crucial packing tip that is often overlooked. It is up for debate whether it is better to store your items in a specific room or by their category. It all depends on your preference. We recommend that you pack your belongings in rooms. This will allow you to stay organized and make it easy for movers or anyone else unloading boxes to know where they belong.
You can also reverse the order in which you unload and pack your items - from the top floor to the ground floor. Start with the things you don't think will need unpacking. Then move on to the rest of the boxes. This will prevent you from putting too much strain on your muscles. After the relocation is complete, you won't be able to climb any stairs with more items.
Limit 30 pounds per box
It is especially important if you are moving abroad as there will be more boxes to pack. One of the boxes may not be strong enough to support the weight or you might sustain a back injury. Light items should be packed in large boxes, while heavy items should be packed in smaller boxes. This packing tip will save you so much pain.
Plastic bags are a good option for spillable items
It's best not to pack too many liquids when packing detergents and toiletries. Instead, only take the essentials. Choose a sturdy container and some plastic bags. The caps can be removed from the bottles. After that, secure the caps by securing the plastic bags around the necks of the bottles. The whole bottle should fit into the bag. Secure the bag with scotch packaging tape. This will ensure that your bottle does not accidentally open and its contents remain in the bag.
Roll your clothes
If you ask any frequent traveller, they will tell you that rolling clothes is the most practical way to store them. It is much easier than following a guideline on how to fold clothes correctly. Rolling reduces the space they take and wrinkles are less likely. You can store more clothes in one container and don't have to iron them before you put them back into your wardrobe.
Roll tubes are used to pack wires and cables
It is annoying to have your earphones get tangled up in your pocket. Toilet roll tubes can be used to individually pack your earphones to prevent the same thing from happening to the wiring in your home. Then label each tube with a small stick note and place them in one box.
All your valuables can be stored in one location
It is important to pack all your valuable possessions in one place. Make a detailed inventory list and keep track of everything so you don't lose or forget anything. You can also rent a safe deposit box from your bank and keep your valuables safe there.
All of your documents should be taken with you
These include birth certificates, passports, bank account statements, etc. You can pack your documents in one box if they fit inside. Then, load them into your car. You may need professional removals services if you own a home-based business or private practice. These services are often insured.
